Executive Board

The Guild is governed by a volunteer Executive Board of Directors whose members exemplify a deep commitment to educational excellence and represent expertise from multiple sectors, including expertise in charter school authorization principles and practices, best practices in teacher professional development and education, and organizational systems compliance, monitoring, metrics, management and strategic planning.

Marcia Averbook (Director) – Retired school teacher and former President of the Bloomington Federation of Teachers.  Marcia served on the Executive Council of the Minnesota Federation of Teachers and the NCATE Board of Examiners

John Benson (Director) – Retired high school teacher in Edina. John served in the MN House of Representatives, 2007-2012 (District 43B) and 2013-2014 (District 44B)

Deirdre Kramer (Treasurer) – President at DBK Consulting and Associate Professor at Hamline University.  Previously, Deirdre served as the Dean of the Graduate School of Education at Hamline University.

Lynn Nordgren (Vice Chair) – Past President of the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers, nationally respected leader in teacher quality and labor collaboration in an effort to improve teaching and learning for all students.

Louise Sundin (Chair) – Executive Vice President, Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation and former National Vice President, American Federation of Teachers.  Louise serves on the Advisory Board of the The Twin Cities Area Labor Management Council and is a Governor-appointed Trustee to the The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System and the Minnesota Board of School Administrators.

Alex Vitrella (Secretary) – Former middle and high school teacher.  Alex holds a law degree from the University of Minnesota with a focus in civil rights and education. Currently, Alex is an Associate for Education Evolving focused on Teacher-Powered Schools.


Brad Blue, Ph.D., Guild Director, is charged with bringing together the expertise and resources necessary to fulfill the Guild’s vision in serving as a single-purpose authorizer of quality public charter schools.

Molly Koppes, Director of Projects, is charged with managing the projects and details for the portfolio of Guild schools.
